What you Need:
- Nebulizer
- Small Cat Carrier
- Towel
- Nebulizer Solution
- Saline Drops
Steps
- Prepare the carrier. Use the smallest carrier you have provided the cat will fit in comfortably. Attach the Nebulizer cup to the front of the carrier and cover it with a towel. Once the cat or kitten is inside the carrier, you can add the solution.
- Put a drop of saline solution into each nostril of your cat or kitten. This helps clear the passageways and ensures the nebulizer mist gets into the lungs. See How to Give Nose Drops.
- Turn on the nebulizer for 20 minutes. Let the cat sit in the carrier for an additional 20 minutes with the towel over the carrier.
- According to Revival Animal Health, you may do it twice the first day, and then once a day for five to seven days. However, I have done saline solution alone as often as 4 to 6 times a day and Vicks Vapo Steam twice a day. If using anything else, consult with a veterinarian on the frequency.
Notes:
When I started nebulizing, I created a special nebulizing chamber from a plastic storage box, similar to the one seen on this page. However, putting the kittens inside was very stressful, despite the fact the sides were clear. So I switched to a carrier. The carrier works just as well without the stress. In fact, many kittens enjoy it and are reluctant to leave the carrier after the treatment is over.
